Vanisova and Matteau win Player of the Week Awards

Tereza Vanisova's 5 point weekend and Alyson Matteau's 4 point weekend earn them Hockey East honors
ORONO, Maine - After splitting the weekend series with Boston University, losing 5-3 on Friday and winning 4-1 on Saturday, two Black Bear skaters were honored with Player of the Week awards for their performance; Freshman Forward Tereza Vanisova, who scored 4 goals and tallied an assist in the weekend against BU was awarded Hockey East Player of the Week, and Sophomore Defender Alyson Matteau scored a power play goal on Friday and notched 3 assists in the victory on Saturday to win Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week (along with BC Defender Tori-Ann Miano, who had the same stat line).
Of her 4 goals on the weekend, Tereza Vanisova scored 1 in the loss on Friday, which put Maine ahead 3-2 at the end of the 2nd period. Vanisova's natural hat trick on Saturday included the game-winner on a power play just over 2 minutes into the final period against the Terriers. Within the following 6 minutes she added two more including a tricky wrap-around from behind the net. Earlier in the game, her assist helped tie the game as she took a shot which then rebounded to Brooke Stacey who scored the equalizer 23 seconds into the 2nd period. The weekend's performance makes Tereza the second-highest scoring Freshman in Hockey East with 14 points on the season.
Alyson Matteau scored her first goal of the season in Friday's loss against BU on a power play goal from out near the blue line as she sniped one past the BU Goaltender, which sparked the 2nd period rally to help Maine take the lead in the 2nd. In the victory on Saturday, Matteau assisted on the tying goal from Stacey, the game-winning goal from Vanisova, and the final goal on the hat trick to Vanisova. She now leads the team with 7 assists.
The Black Bears are back in action this weekend at UConn on Friday, November 18th at 7pm; the following weekend they will play another game in Auburn, Maine, against UNH at 7pm.
