Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Maine Men's Basketball defeated Husson University 108-79 Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center in their first exhibition game of the season.

Ilker Er was the high point man for the Black Bears with 17 points. Er shot 6-for-12 from the field, 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Joining Er in double-figures were five other Black Bears:
Vincent Eze with 10 points,
Dennis Ashley with 10,
Aaron Calixte with 11,
Marko Pirovic with 13 and
Danny Evans with 13.

The Black Bears opened the game on a 9-0 run triggered by three buckets in the paint.
Raheem Anderson scored his first bucket of the game for Husson with a layup to give the Eagles their first point, three minutes into the game.

Midway through the first half, Maine opened a 17 point lead after a three from
Marko Pirovic to take a 30-13 lead. The Black Bears later added another three from
Danny Evans to take a 20 point lead.

With less than eight minutes remaining in the half, Husson rattled off four three pointers in a row to go on a 12-0 run, closing the gap to within eight points as Maine led 33-25.

The Black Bears responded to the Eagles run with points in the paint from Eze, Calixte and
Andrew Fleming as Maine increased its margin to 14 points, 39-25.

Maine closed out the half with a Calixte and-one and a Pirovic dunk to give the Black Bears a 53-34 advantage.

Er gave Maine two consecutive threes in the second half to increase the lead to 19, 68-41.

Maine was able to convert on eight three pointers in the second half, shooting 8-23. Husson shot just 37.8 percent in the second half from the field.   Â

The Black Bears largest lead of the day came with 6:04 remaining in the second half, off of a
Garet Beal free throw, to give Maine a 92-63 advantage.

With seconds remaining,
C.J. Ward came up with a steal and passed to
Danny Evans who set up
Garvey Melmed for the layup, giving Maine a 108-79 victory.
