Orono, Maine-- The University of Maine Women's Soccer Team earned its fifth win of the season over LIU Brooklyn 2-1. The Black Bears improve to 5-3 while the Blackbirds fall to 2-6.
Claudia Dube-Trempe was in goal for Maine, recording four saves and allowing just one goal. Erin Harbison was the goalkeeper for LIU Brooklyn, making a total of ten saves and allowing two goals.
Maine got on the board first with a goal by Ashley Robinson. With an assist from Charlene Achille, Robinson was able to capitalize on a deflected pass and shot the ball high and wide over the goalie.
Just six minutes later, the Black Bears scored again, this time on an unassisted shot from Charlene Achille, who took a shot from 30 yards back and was able to get the ball high over the goalkeeper and just under the crossbar. Achille totaled three points in this game.
LIU Brooklyn added their lone goal in the second half with a shot high over Dube-Trempe. Madison Gomez was the goal scorer.
With a total of twelve shots on goal and sixteen shots, Maine's offense was strong and in control. They were able to capitalize on their chances and play aggressively.
The Black Bears will play their first conference game at Hartford on September 27 at 3pm.
