Women's Soccer Earns a Win Against Fairfield in Season Opener

Orono, Maine-- The University of Maine women's soccer teamed earned a 1-0 win in its home opener against Fairfield.
Coming off a 4-0 win against Holy Cross in exhibition action, Maine looked strong during its first game of the season. With a total of 19 shots to Fairfield's four, Maine's offense was in control of the game from start to finish.
Maine's first and only goal of the game was scored by senior Charlene Achille. Kaitlin Saulter came in from the left, passing over the middle to Achille, who fired a low shot past the goalkeeper on the left post, giving Maine a 1-0 edge.
Claudia Dube-Trempe earned her first shutout of the season with a total of two saves.
Maine hosts Fordham Sunday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. on Mahaney Diamond.
