Baseball Sweeps Crucial America East Doubleheader from Binghamton

In the first game, Maine struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Heath singled to right center field and scored when Luke Morrill (South Thomaston, Maine) doubled down the left field line.
Maine added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning. Brenden Geary (South Hadley, Mass.) doubled and scored when Sam Balzano (Portland, Maine) reached on an error.
Maine added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brian Doran (Ayr, Ontario) reached on an error and scored when Stypulkowski doubled to the right field gene. Stypulkowski scored on a wild pitch.
Binghamton got on the board with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Eddie Posavec reached on a fielder's choice and scored when Jason Agresti doubled.
Maine capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning. Doran reached on an error and scored when Stypulkowski singled to center field. Geary followed with a home run over the right field fence, giving Maine the 7-1 lead. For Geary, it was his third home run of the season.
Justin Courtney (Bangor, Maine) went 5.2 innings on the mound and allowed just one run on nine hits. He struck out four batters and improves to 4-5 on the season. Logan Fullmer (Lebanon, Pa.) went the final 3.1 innings to earn the save, his second of the season.
Greg Ostner went seven innings for Binghamton and allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on eight hits. He falls to 1-7 on the season. Jake Erhard went the final inning and allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on two hits.
In the second game, Binghamton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Zach Blanden led off the game with a single and scored when Jake Thomas doubled. Thomas scored the second run of the inning when Brendan Skidmore doubled.
Maine took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brett Chappell (Rock Falls, Ill.) led off the inning with a home run to left field. Morrill singled up the middle and scored when Stypulkowski doubled down the right field line. Stypulkowski scored the go ahead run when Balzano singled to center field.
Heath went the distance on the mound for the Black Bears. He allowed two runs on 13 hits while striking out seven. He improves to 5-3 on the season.
Mike Bunal allowed three runs on five hits over five innings. He falls to 4-5 on the season. Anthony Grillini went the final inning for the Bearcats.
The Black Bears and Bearcats conclude their America East weekend series on Saturday, May 9, First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM. Prior to the game, Maine will honor its six seniors.
