Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale to Albany 6-1

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of Maine baseball team dropped the regular season finale 6-1 on Saturday to Albany. Brett Chappell (Rock Fall, Ill.) had a pair of hits in the game for the Black Bears.
Maine falls to 24-26 on the season and 10-10 in America East play. Albany improves to 14-28 overall, 7-13 in America East play.
Albany jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Will Miller singled to right field and then stole second base. He moved to third when Alex Lushkevich grounded out and scored when Shawn Blake hit a sacrifice fly.
Maine tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Luke Morrill (South Thomaston, Maine) singled and then stole second base. He scored when Brian Doran (Ayr, Ontario) doubled down the right field line.
Albany added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Shawn Blake led off the inning with a home run. Matt Hinchy singled through the left side. Adam Mund doubled to left field plating Hinchy. Mund scored when Brendan Behan singled to left field. Behan scored the fourth run of the inning when Eric Mueller singled to center.
Albany added to its lead with a run in the eighth. Mueller singled up the middle, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored when Blake hit a sacrifice fly.
Jacob Gosselin-Deschesnes (Montreal, Quebec) went the first 5.2 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. He struck out four and falls to 3-3 on the season. Connor Johnson (Taunton, Mass.) allowed two hits in a third of an inning. Charlie Butler (Marlborough, Mass.) went the final two innings and allowed a run on two hits.
Matt Gallup pitched the first five innings for Albany and allowed one run on three hits. Andrew Jaurique went a scoreless inning in relief to earn the win. He improves to 1-0 on the season.
Maine will be the third seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and will face UMBC on Thursday at 5 PM at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass.
