No. 20 Maine Field Hockey Keeps Streak Going; Downs No. 15 Northeastern in OT, 2-1

BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 20 University of Maine Field Hockey team kept its winning streak alive on Sunday afternoon as the squad upended No. 15 Northeastern, 2-1 (OT), in Boston, Mass. Annabelle Hamilton scored the decisive goal on a penalty stroke just under three minutes into overtime to help Maine improve to 10-6 (3-0 in America East).
For the second time this weekend the Black Bears fell behind early as the Huskies notched the opening marker. Emma Lamison registered the goal at the 8:10 mark of the first half to make it 1-0.
It wasn't until the second half that Maine fired back as Nicole Sevey notched her sixth goal of the season, 43:59 into the game. Both Becca Paradee and Hamilton recorded assists.
Both teams traded punches foring an extra frame, but Hamilton was awarded a penalty stroke at the 72:23 and cashed in on the opportunity for the second-straight game as Maine notched the golden goal.
Emily Corbett got the start in net for the Black Bears as she made five saves on six shots on goal to improve to 5-4 on the season. Becky Garner got the start in net and made five saves on seven shots on goal and fell to 11-3.
Northeastern had been on quite the run having only lost two games all season but the Black Bears controlled play offensively holding advantages in both shots, 8-7, and penalty corners, 8-4.
Maine continued its winning streak as it has now won eight-straight contests dating back to Sept. 28. Defense has been a big part of the streak as the Black Bears have allowed one goal or less in seven out of eight games.
Maine will be back in action when a clash of America East favorites brings Maine to Albany, N.Y. to take on No. 11 Albany on Oct. 25. Maine will conclude the week against Cornell, which also be hosted by the Great Danes on Oct. 26.
