Field Hockey Downs UMass Lowell for Seventh-Straight Victory

LOWELL, Mass. -- The University of Maine field hockey team picked up its seventh-straight win as it defeated UMass Lowell (4-10, 0-3 America East) by a score of 2-1 on Saturday evening. Holly Stewart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) and Annabelle Hamilton (North Vancouver, British Columbia) tallied goals for the Black Bears who move to 9-6 and 3-0 in America East action.
UMass Lowell took a 1-0 lead at the 19:39 mark when Marzana Fiedtkou notched her first goal of the season as she tallied the game's first tally off a corner feed from Sophie Watt.
Maine battled back as Stewart tied the game with 5:28 remaining in the first half. Stewart and the Black Bears worked directly off a set corner Nicole Sevey (Skowhegan, Maine) started the action with a pass out to Zoe Brekey. Berkey settled the ball fed it over to Katie Bingle who then found Stewart for the game-tying goal.
Hamilton scored the eventual game-winner 9:46 into the second half as capitalized on a penalty stroke for her eighth goal on the year.
Emma Cochran (Surrey, British Columbia) and Emily Corbett (Listowel, Ontario) split time in the cage for the Black Bears. Cochran and Corbett each made one save while Corbett picked up the win, improving to 4-4 on the year.
Kelsey Federico fell to 4-10 overall in the cage after making 11 saves on 13 shots.
The Black Bears dominated action as they held the edge in shots 24-9 and penalty corner chances, 7-2.
Maine looks for its eighth-straight win when it travels to take on Northeastern on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 PM.
