Baseball Falls to Rollins 5-2

WINTER PAKR, Fla. -- The University of Maine baseball team fell to Rollins 5-2 on Friday evening in Winter Park, Fla. The different Black Bears had a pair of hits in the game. Maine falls to 4-12 on the season, while Rollins improves to 15-6.
Rollins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Kevin Mager singled up the middle and scored when John Avanzino singled through the left side.
Maine tied the game in the top of the third inning. Mike Connolly (Middleborough, Mass.) singled to right field. He advanced on second on an error, moved to third on a Michael Fransoso (Portsmouth, N.H.) sacrifice bunt and scored on a Joey Martin (Portland, Maine) sacrifice fly.
Rollins regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs. Nick Adams singled to shortstop and scored when Zack Persky singled to center field. Chris Holloway reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a balk. Persky scored the third run of the inning when Avanzino singled.
Maine added a run in the top of the fifth inning. Fransoso singled to right field and Martin followed with a single to the pitcher. Both runners advanced a base on a balk. Fransoso scored when Alex Calbick (Burnaby, British Columbia) singled.
Rollins added a run in the bottom of the inning when Tony Brunetti singled to right center, stole second and scored when Avanzinio singled up the middle, giving the Tars a 5-2 lead.
Stephen Perakslis (Abington, Mass.) got the start and went five innings. He allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out three. He falls to 0-4 on the season. Shaun Coughlin pitched the final three innings. He allowed two hits while stirking out a pair.
Matt White went 4.2 inning and allowed two runs on eight hits. He improves to 3-0 on the season.
Maine returns to action when it faces Rollins in the championship game of the 2011 Rollins College Baseball Week on Saturday, March 12 at 6 PM.
