Dougherty Nets Hat Trick, Leads Black Bears Past Eagles 5-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass--The University of Maine women's ice hockey team defeated the Boston College Eagles by a score of 5-2. With the win, Maine improves their record to 6-4-0 and 2-2-0 in conference action while the loss drops Boston College to 5-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. Junior forward Brittany Dougherty (Chesterfield, Mich.) led the Black Bears with a three goals and an assist. Dominique Goutsis (Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Britteny Huneke (Hastings, Minn.) were also able to find the back of the net for Maine.
Brittany Dougherty notched her first goal of the afternoon 14:42 into the first period with the assist coming from Tori Pasquariello (Mississauga, Ontario) to give the Black Bears a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Eagle Jackie Young tied the game with a goal at 16:07 on a power play. The assists came from Alex Carpenter and Dru Burns for the Eagles. The score would remain tied at 1-1 going into the second period.
Dominique Goutsis struck next for the Black Bears 6:43 into the period with the assists coming from Chloe Tinkler (Wabush, Newfoundland) and Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) to give Maine a 2-1 lead. Brittany Dougherty added onto the lead by scoring a power play goal 11:01 into the second to increase the lead to 3-1. Senior captain Dawn Sullivan (Enfield, Nova Scotia) and Myriam Croussette (Baie-Comeau, Quebec) were given the assists on the play.
Maine was able to tally another goal to their lead on a power play by Britteny Huenke just 2:10 into the third period to make the score 4-1. Myriam Croussette and Dawn Sullivan again teamed up for the assists on the play. Brittany Dougherty earned a hat trick at 3:57 to give the Black Bears a 5-1 lead with assists coming from Brianne Kilgour (Hamilton, Ontario) and Danielle Ward (Lansing, Mich.). Boston College netted their second goal of the game with under nine minutes to play on a power play goal by Danielle Welch with the assist from Dru Burns and Jackie Young. The scored would be finalized at 5-2.
Black Bear goalie Brittany Ott (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) was solid in net making 31 saves on 33 shots, improving her record to 3-3-0 on the season. Boston College goalie Corinne Boyles was given the loss for the Eagles after making eight saves in 43:57 of play. Her record drops to 5-2-2. Kiera Kingston finished the game in goal for the Eagles making three saves through 16:03 minutes of play.
Maine went 2-for-4 on the power play while Boston College also went 2-for-4.
The Black Bears will travel to Providence College for a weekend series with the first game being played on Saturday, November 5 at 1 p.m.
