Emily Bruns, who was hired in the summer of 2018, came to Orono after having been a part of the Chicago Blackhawks fan development team from 2015-2017. Bruns was an active part of her community in Chicago, including the head coach of G.O.A.L. (Get Out and Learn), which introduced street hockey fundamentals across over 80 schools. She also assisted in many events put on by the Blackhawks, including training camps and events held by the team.
Having earned her bachelor's in Management and a minor in photography from Columbia College in 2015, she has since coached for multiple levels of hockey in the Chicago area. Most recently, she was the assistant coach of the Edina Hockey Association – Girls U15 team. She is the granddaughter of UMaine Sports Hall of Famer Grant Standbrook.
