Paul Culina

Paul Culina began his tenure at the University of Maine in 1995. The former head athletic trainer at Maine, Culina currently serves as athletic trainer for the men’s ice hockey team. He previously served as the head athletic trainer.

Culina returned to working with the men’s ice hockey team during the 2007 season. Since 2001, he had served as the athletic trainer for Maine football and women’s ice hockey. He joined the Black Bear staff in 1995 and worked with the 1999 NCAA National Championship team. 

During his time at Maine, he has also worked with the men’s soccer, baseball and swimming programs. Culina also teaches courses in the Athletic Training Education Program.

A native of Auburn, Maine, Culina received his bachelor of science in physical education with a minor in health education from Norwich University in 1991. He received his masters degree in education from Norwich in 1993. While at Norwich, he served as an assistant athletic trainer from 1991-94. He was an assistant athletic trainer at Bowdoin College from 1994-95. 

He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and serves as President of the Maine Athletic Trainers Association (MATA), along with the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers’ Society (PHATS). He was also the district representative to the National College and University Athletic Trainers’ Committee. Culina and his wife, Krista, have a daughter Madison and sons Benjamin and Nathan. They reside in Orono.
