Jason "Jai" Steadman was officially announced as an assistant coach with the UMaine men's basketball staff on Sept. 7, 2021. Steadman was elevated to Interim Head Coach on Feb. 17, 2022.
Steadman comes to Maine from the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley where he served as the men’s basketball team’s interim head coach for the 2020-21 season after serving as the team’s assistant coach since 2014. Steadman’s resumé is thorough, as he spent three seasons with the Houston Rockets’ NBA G-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, from 2009-12 and also served as an assistant coach for the 2010 NBA D-League All-Star Game, and the NBA D-League Select team during the 2010 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Steadman has previous head coaching experience with Rander Cimbria in Denmark, where he led the team to their first playoff appearance in 2003-04. He also spent the 2013-14 season as the head coach at Westwind Preparatory Academy in Phoenix, Ariz. before returning to Rio Grande Valley.
