Reggie Garrett

Reggie Garrett began his tenure as an assistant coach with the Black Bears in March of 2019. Garrett will work specifically with the cornerbacks and begins year two on the staff in 2020.

In 2019, the secondary continued its tradition of excellence under new guidance from Garrett. The unit allowed just 210.0 yards per game through the air and just 17 passing touchdowns, second fewest in the CAA. The Black Bears held opposing teams to just a 52.4 opposing completion percentage, tops among CAA defenses in 2019.

Garrett joined the Black Bears after spending three seasons at Temple, beginning as a graduate assistant in 2016 before working his way up to a role as the Director of On-Campus Recruiting. In January of 2018, Garrett was promoted into a full-time role as a defensive analyst and, one-month later, promoted again to director of player personnel.

Prior to his time with Temple, Garrett served two seasons as a defensive backs coach at Pace University, working specifically with the defensive backs while also mentoring the punt return game. At Pace, Garrett was tasked with breaking down film, developing defensive gameplans and coordinating position meetings and practice drills.

Garrett is familiar with the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) after spending the 2013 season as an assistant cornerbacks coach at Rhode Island.

During his playing days, Garrett was originally a walk-on to the Norfolk State University football team before earning a scholarship and eventually being named a captain during his senior season. A 2012 graduate of Norfolk State, he played a key role on the Spartan's 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship team while also serving as vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Garrett earned his bachelor's degree in building construction technology from Norfolk State in 2012.

Garrett, originally hailing from Chesapeake, Va., achieved much success as a quarterback at Indian River High. While in high school, Garrett won numerous academic awards, including the Alonzo Mourning Student-Athlete Award.
