UMaine Swimming and Diving Announces Team Awards

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving team held their annual awards banquet on Sunday, April 26 at the New Balance Rec Center on the Maine Campus.

The team voted on all the awards, except for the Erin Woolley Award, which was selected by the coaching staff.

The Switzer Dedication award was presented to Taylor Sharp (Burlington, Ontario), Ryan Fahey (Quincy, Mass.) and Phil Harrison (St. John's, United Kingdom).

The Most Valuable Swimmer Award went to Naja Harvey (Orono, Minn.) on the women's side. Matt England (Bangor, Maine) and Nick Sundquist (Windham, Maine) shared the award on the men's side.

The Most Improved Swimmer Award went to Emily Borger (Air Force Base, Mass.) on the women's side and Ben Hebert (South Berwick, Maine) and Connor Mayhew (Waterboro, Maine) on the men's side.

The Chandler Comeback Award was presented to Victoria Kingston (Bradford, Ontario) and Tim Edison (Westford, Mass.).

The Palmer Plaque for Academic Excellence went to Abby Linn (Elkhart, Ind.) and Fahey.

Kayla Bousfield (Glenburn, Maine) received the Miller Diving Award.

The Senior Service Award went to Harvey.

The Erin Woolley Memorial Award was presented to Courtney Norman (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) and Harrison. The Erin Woolley Memorial Award will be awarded annually in memory of Erin Woolley (1984-2010), who was a member of the swimming and diving team from 2002-2006. Woolley never failed to brighten the day with her spirit, spunk and zest for life in and out of the pool. Her dedication led to inspiring performances, often as "lead dog" at America East. She left us far too soon, but her memory and character are forever in our hearts. The Erin Woolley Memorial Award will be awarded annually to an underclass member of the team that best embodies the contributions that Woolley made to the program.

The University of Maine is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2015. In conjunction with this, the athletic department will celebrate 150 student-athletes achievements over the next year.
