Maine Places Highest Percent of Student-Athletes on 2014 America East Fall Academic Honor Roll

Boston, Massachusetts -- The America East Conference released its 2014 fall academic honor roll and Thursday with nearly two-thirds of all student-athletes received recognition. There were 694 student-athletes named to the America East Academic Honor Roll for achieving a 3.0 grade point average or higher, with more than 400 student-athletes named to the America East Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for achieving a 3.50 grade point average or better.

Maine had 59 student-athletes honored and the highest percentage of its student-athletes named to the America East Academic Honor Roll. The Black Bears had 77.6 percent of their student-athletes honored as Scholar-Athletes. Hartford and New Hampshire were the other two schools with more than 70 percent of their student-athletes honored. 

Maine led all America East field hockey schools as 85 percent (17-of-20) of the team was honored for achieving a 3.0 or better. 

For the third-straight year, University of New Hampshire had the most student-athletes (104) recognized on the fall Academic Honor Roll.

America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In addition to the Honor Roll, Presidential Scholar-Athlete awards are bestowed to student-athletes who graduate with a 3.75 GPA. The Elite 18 program recognizes elite students while All-Academic teams comprised of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically are chosen in each of the conference’s 18 sports. The conference also Scholar-Athletes in each of its 18 sports as well as a male and female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Finally, the Academic Cup  is presented to the institution whose student-athletes post the highest grade-point average during that academic year.

The University of Maine is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2015. In conjunction with this, the athletic department will celebrate 150 student-athletes achievements over the next year.
