Katy Massey, Holly Stewart and Devin Shore Named to Academic All-District First Team

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine had three student-athletes named to the 2014-15 Academic All-District At-Large First Teams on Thursday, May 14, 2015. Katy Massey (Waterville Maine) and Holly Stewart (North Vancouver, British Columbia) were named on the women’s side, while Devin Shore (Ajax, Ontario) received honors on the men’s side. They will all three be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.

 

Massey, a psychology major with a perfect 4.00 grade point average, was an assistant captain of the women’s ice hockey team. She set the school record this year for career games played with 132, having never missed a game in her four-year career. Massey was named the University of Maine’s 2015 Salutatorian. She is a three-time Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete. She has been named to the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team three times and is a three-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection. She has been named to the Dean’s List and named a Maine Scholar-Athlete Award winner.

 

Stewart is a four-year standout from the field hockey team with a 3.97 GPA, majoring in kinesiology and physical education. She was named to the 2014 America East First Team and named a 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA D I All-Region First Team selection. The America East Conference named her a Presidential Scholar-Athlete this past season. She received the 2014 M Club Dean Smith Award as the Top Scholar-Athlete at Maine and named to the America East Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. She was named a Scholar of Distinction by SGI/NFHCA. Stewart was named the Outstanding Graduating International Student in the College of Education and Human Development. She is currently playing with the Canadian National Team as they pursue an Olympic berth.

 

Shore is a finance major with a 3.94 grade point average. He led the men’s ice hockey team in scoring in each of the past three years. Shore had 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points this season. A team captain as a junior, Shore was named a Second Team All-American in 2014. He was named to the Hockey East First Team in 2014 and the Hockey East Second Team in 2015. He became the 53rd player in Maine history to reach the 100-point milestone and finished his career with 104 points. Following Maine’s season, Shore signed a professional contract with the Dallas Stars.

 

The University of Maine is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2015. In conjunction with this, the athletic department will celebrate 150 student-athletes achievements over the next year.
