Dear Black Bear Fans,

Here at the University of Maine we are steadfast in our commitment to provide the very best experience for our students. As a part of our mission, our athletic department spends each and every day preparing over 400 student-athletes to become leaders and champions not only during their time in the classroom and in the athletic arena here in Orono but –more importantly– for when they leave here and become professionals, community leaders, husband and wives, fathers and mothers and valued members of our society. Our ultimate goal is to groom these young men and women to succeed and to take a great amount of pride in their character as they take on the world. We believe athletics is the perfect vehicle to teach valuable traits like hard work, integrity, sportsmanship, the ability to handle adversity and appreciating the dedication it takes to be a champion in every aspect of life.

You play a key role in helping us achieve this mission.

When you make a gift to support our student-athletes you are playing a vital role in our mission of developing future leaders. Whether you are a steadfast supporter or just considering your first gift, please know that your support is very important to us and we thank you!

Playing sports in Maine isn’t always easy, which is why it takes a special student-athlete to be a Black Bear. We are proud, we are tough and we are resourceful. Simply put, with our limited resources it is difficult to meet all the demands required of Maine’s only Division I athletic program. Your support helps us equip our teams, travel throughout the country and world for competition and provide an experience that our student-athletes deserve.

In short, you are a major part of our team. Your support directly impacts the success and development of our student –athletes, and we thank you for all you do!

We encourage you to consider a gift to a specific team or our Alfond Fund to help us achieve our goals. In addition to your philanthropic support, one of the greatest ways you can help us is to join us at a game and bring a friend or two to help cheer on our dedicated student-athletes. It will take all of us to be great, and we know we can do it with the help of people like you.

Thanks again for all you do to help Black Bear Nation and our student-athletes.

Here’s to the College of our Hearts Always!
