RECOVERY AND STRESS MANAGEMENT
In an effort to provide relief to our athletic training and medical staff, the University of Maine Sports Performance Team uses strategic methodology to provide recovery and stress management to our student athletes. We have an open door policy when it comes to these situations – meaning that we allow both walk-in and scheduled appointments for these practices. Each athlete will hold stress differently in their body, based on the sport they play, their sport position, or their body type. Understanding this, we are able to use specific qualitative clues to resolve issues relating to why athletes might be experiencing pain within certain parts of their body.
These practices generally involve one of our coaches working one-on-one with an athlete, instructing them on how to breathe and move in order to relieve stress and reduce chronic pain. These practices allow our athletes to feel better and more confident during practices and games, and also help to reduce the likelihood of overuse injury caused by commonly executed sport movements. This effort also reduces the number of athletes who are seen by athletic trainers for these types of easily mitigated instances, which allows our training staff to provide a higher level of care and attention to athletes who need it most.
