DENVER – The #15/18 University of Maine men's ice hockey team earned a 5-2 win over #6 Denver on Friday night at Magness Arena.
After a scoreless first period,
Lukas Peterson's deflected point shot gave Maine a 1-0 lead at the 3:41 mark of the middle frame. Five minutes later,
Sully Scholle's odd-man-rush wrist shot made it 2-0.
The teams then combined for five goals in the third period, with two coming from
Thomas Pichette. After each Pichette strike, Denver responded with a goal to give the game a 4-2 scoreline midway through the third. The Pioneers pulled the goaltender with five minutes to play but Maine withstood the onslaught and
Brandon Holt potted the empty-net goal for the 5-2 final score.
