ORONO, Maine – University of Maine officials and head swim coach Susan Lizzotte have announced that swimming & diving coach Linda Costello has been elevated to the role of associate head coach.
Costello, entering her 11th season on staff, previously served 10 seasons as an assistant coach with the swimming & diving program. During her time, Costello has helped guide the Black Bears to 108 new records including 71 individual marks and 37 relay marks.
Before joining the coaching staff in 2015, Costello worked for the athletics department in the Bear Necessities Fan Shop from 2008-2013 and also served roles as a student manager, with the Black Bear ticket office, and with the athletic marketing and promotions team.
An alumni of UMaine, she graduated summa cum laude in 2012 with her degree in Secondary Education: English and completed her Masters in 2024 in Literacy.
As a student-athlete at UMaine, Costello was a captain of the swim team and a four-time scholar athlete. She was voted the Most Improved in 2008 and earned the Senior Service Award in 2012. Costello finished her four-year career swimming the IM, backstroke, and distance events for the Black Bears in 2012.
