Linda Costello enters her 11th season as the Assistant Coach for the Black Bears in 2025-26. An alumni of UMaine, she graduated summa cum laude in 2012 with her degree in Secondary Education: English and completed her Masters in 2024 in Literacy.Â
Costello was elevated to associate head coach in August of 2025.
During her time at UMaine, Costello was a captain of the team and a four-time scholar athlete. She was voted the Most Improved in 2008 and earned the Senior Service Award in 2012. Costello finished her 4-year career swimming IM, Backstroke, and Distance for the Black Bears in 2012.Â
Before joining the coaching staff in 2015, Costello worked for the Athletics Department in Bear Necessities from 2008-2013 as a Student Manager, Ticket Sales in 2012-2013 as the Assistant Director of Marketing Sales and Promotions, and brings experience with many different aspects of the department.Â
Costello has helped guide the Black Bears to break 58 Individual School Records, 32 School Relay Records, and multiple Top 10 Performances in school history during her time as assistant coach.Â
Linda and her husband Jefft, both UMaine Alumni, have two golden retrievers, Jake and Luna.
