Elise Morphy named Hockey East Academic Champion

ORONO, Maine - Elise Morphy of the Maine women's ice hockey team was named the Academic Champion, Hockey East announced Wednesday.

Elise Morphy is a four-time 4.0 student who majored in Biology pre-med and chemistry and earned the University of Maine School of Biology and Ecology's Highest GPA four times as an undergraduate. As a graduate student, Morphy has maintained a 4.0.

In her final game, Morphy broke the program record for most games played, with 157. Morphy has scored 49 points in her career with 13 assists and 36 assists. Elise is a two-time captain, voted by her teammates. She has stoically led a young team and continues to lead and contribute to Maine, her teammates, her peers, community, and her coaches. 

The Hockey East Academic Champion is an award begun in 2023-24 by the Hockey East Association to recognize student-athletes who have achieved the highest levels of success both on the ice and in the classroom. The Hockey East Academic Champion honor is bestowed each season upon one men's and one women's student-athlete who has complimented a superior level of on-ice play with academic excellence and community service. 

This year, each winner will receive at least $1,000 in academic scholarship money to continue their education thanks to Hockey East's partnership with Night Shift Brewing. 

Morphy will be acknowledged at the Hockey East championship game on March 8.
