PREVIEW: Women's Basketball back in action Sunday at Quinnipiac

Tip-off set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's basketball team faces off with Quinnipiac for the seventh time, and third consecutive season, and look for their first-ever win over the Bobcats when the two teams meet on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Sunday's home game can be seen nationally on ESPN+. Additionally, Sunday's game can be heard on the Black Bears Sports Network at GoBlackBears.com and on 92.9 FM in the Bangor region.

LAST TIME OUT:
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Adrianna Smith registered her sixth double-double of the season as the Black Bears dropped a 74-51 decision at Fairfield on Friday evening.

The Black Bears fell behind 24-9 after the first quarter but battled but to cut the lead down to just five in the second quarter. 

Smith finished the evening 7-of-19 from the floor and 5-of-5 from the free throw stripe for 19 points to go along with 12 rebounds for her 44th career double-double. Asta Blauenfeldt returned to the double-figure scoring totals with 17 points.

The Black Bears finished 19-of-39 from the floor (48.7) and held a 31-22 edge in rebounding. 

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears, in the midst of a five-game road trip, enter play in search of their first true road win of the season. Maine is led by Adrianna Smith who currently leads the America East in scoring (18.2) and assists (4.5). Smith, one of 13 nationally who has recorded a triple-double this season, leads the America East with six double-doubles in the season. Smith has turned in 10 double-figure scoring performances, five of 20+, this season and is riding a six-game double-figure scoring streak. Smith, second in the America East in rebounding (9.3), ranks 12th on Maine's all-time scoring list and eighth in the all-time rebounding column. Asta Blauenfeldt, who began the season with a seven-game double-digit scoring streak and is coming off a 17 point outing at Fairfield, ranks 18th in the league in scoring (11.1) and is Maine's top three-point threat ranking eighth in both three-point percentage and three-pointers made per game (2.0). Maine prides itself on taking care of the ball. The Black Bears have won the turnover battle in eight of their first 11 games. 

A LOOK AT QUINNIPIAC:
The Bobcats roll into Sunday riding a three-game win streak following a 68-47 victory at Cornell. Quinnipiac, 1-2 at home this season, Jackie Grisdale leads the Bobcats at 16.9 points per game to go along with 4.1 rebounds. Her 50-percent clip (30-for-60) from three-point range leads the team and ranks ninth nationally. Ella Ryan is adding 11.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and boasts a 46.8-percent showing from three point range, 28th best in the nation. The Bobcats lead the MAAC and check in 33rd best in the nation allowing just 54.9 points per game. The Bobcats' 10.9 turnovers per game rank first in the MAAC and eighth nationally. As a unit, Quinnipiac ranks 18th best in the country from beyond the three-point arc (38.0).

SERIES WITH QUINNIPIAC: 
Maine is searching for its first-ever win over Quinnipiac as it enters play 0-5 all-time against the Bobcats and 0-3 on the road in the series. Last season, Quinnipiac scored a 61-53 victory in Orono. Talon posted 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss. The contest marks Maine's first visit to Hamden since 2023, a 70-57 Bobcats win. The teams met in the 2016 WNIT with Quinnipiac coming out on top on its home court, 90-44. The teams first met in 2007, a 70-49 win by the Bobcats in the second round of the Dead River Company Classic in Orono. Maine came up short at Quinnipiac in 2009 by a score of 68-59.
