Black Bears earn weekend sweep over Terriers

Maine earned an 8-5 win on Saturday night at Alfond Arena.

ORONO, Maine – The #12 University of Maine men's ice hockey team earned an 8-5 win over #5 Boston University for a weekend sweep on Saturday night at a sold-out Alfond Arena.

The Terriers scored 36 seconds into the contest but the Black Bears responded just 23 seconds later, with Charlie Russell potting his first of two on the night. Jeremy Langlois and Owen Fowler scored 24 seconds apart near the middle of the frame for a 3-1 Maine lead after the first period.

Five minutes into the second period, the Terriers pulled a goal back. Justin Poirier then put Maine back up by two before BU responded in kind with a short-handed tally and a 4-3 scoreline. Max Scott's power-play goal and Russell's second of the night pushed Maine's lead back out to two goals before a BU power-play goal made it a 6-4 game at the second intermission.

Maine, though, sandwiched a Scott short-handed goal and an Oskar Komarov empty-net goal around a BU tally in the third period, with Maine picking up the 8-5 victory.
