Maine Athletics Kindness Campaign to run November, December

ORONO, Maine – Maine Athletics has partnered with several community organizations to host a series of charity drives throughout the Holiday season. The Black Bears thank you in advance for supporting the following charitable initiatives.

 

UMaine Golden Key Warmth Drive

Fans are encouraged to donate new or gently used winter apparel, including but not limited to, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, and warm socks, to keep local children warm this winter. All items will be donated to local elementary and middle schools. Bins will be located outside the facilities with monetary donations accepted inside.

 
Warmth Drive Dates:

Nov. 15 - Men's Ice Hockey - 7:30 p.m.

Nov. 21 - Women's Ice Hockey

Dec. 7 - Women's Basketball - 6:00 p.m.

 

25 Days of Kindness - Holden Police Food Drive

In memory of Chief Chris Greely, and his 25 Days of Kindness initiative, the Black Bears will join forces with the Holden Police for a food drive on two dates. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food to support this cause.

 
25 Days of Kindness Dates:

Nov. 22 - Women's Ice Hockey

Dec. 6 - Men's Ice Hockey - 7:00 p.m.

 

Marden's Sock Drive

The Black Bears will join forces with Marden's Surplus and Salvage for a sock drive. Fans are asked to bring socks to the game listed below and distribute them in bins located in the lobby area. Socks collected will go to support local organizations in need.

University Credit Union Food Drive:

Maine Athletics and University Credit Union encourage all fans to join in collecting non-perishable food items on Dec. 5. All items will be distributed to the Black Bears Exchange.

 
UCU Food Drive Date:

Dec. 5 - Men's Ice Hockey - 7:00 p.m.

 

Teddy Bear Toss:

Back for the second-straight season, Maine Athletics will host a teddy bear toss during the first intermission of the men's ice hockey game on Dec. 13, presented by Cianbro. Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring teddy bears or other stuffed toys to the game. At an announced time during the game, fans will toss their stuffed animals onto the ice. Maine Athletics staffers will gather the items and all will be donated as presents to local organizations.
