Orono, ME - Jeremiah Jenkins of the University of Maine baseball program was selected in the 14th round at pick #418 by the San Francisco Giants in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Jenkins, a native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, had one of the most dominant three-year career's offensively in the history of Maine baseball, including the second-best single season by a player in program history in 2023. Jenkins slashed .332/.454/.675 across his 148 games played. His .675 SLG% is the highest in a single career in program history (min. 50 AB's).
He hit 50 home runs across his three seasons, which are the second-most in a career in program history (Mark Sweeney - 53). He collected 153 RBI as he hit 31 doubles and seven triples to go along with a nearly 1:1 ratio of walks-to-strikeouts (97:109).
Jenkins is one of three Black Bears in program history to be named a multi-time All-American (2022 Freshman All-American, 2023 Third-Team All-American), joining hall of farmers Bill Swift (1982-84) and Mark Sweeney (1988, 1990-91).
He is a three-time All-Conference member (2022 Second Team, 2023 and 2024 First Team) and in 2023 he was the America East Player of the Year, the NCBWA District I Player of the Year, an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team member, an NEIBA All-New England First Team member, a member of the America East All-Tournament Team for the 2023 America East Championship winning Black Bears. He slashed .365/.508/.771 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, and led all Black Bears with 21 home runs, which are the second-most in a single season in program history (Mark Sweeney - 23). He scored 53 runs and had 76 RBI, which is the second-most in a single season in program history (Mark Sweeney - 80) in his 197 at-bats.
This is the second-straight year a Black Bear has been drafted by the Giants in the MLB Draft as Quinn McDaniels was taken in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
