Women's Basketball Australia Excursion - Update #1

ORONO, Maine -- Following 31-straight hours of travel, the University of Maine women's basketball team finally touched down in Sydney, Australia for their excursion to the land down under.

The Black Bears began their voyage in Orono before busing to Boston. From there, the team flew from Boston, connecting in Dallas, before making the flight to Australia.

On day one, the Black Bears arrived in Sydney where took part in a Sydney Sights Tour at Bondi Beach. Follow the tour, the Black Bears hit the court for a practice session before enjoying a welcome dinner in Sydney.

Day two began with scenic climb up the Sydney Harbor Bridge where the team enjoyed the 'best views in town', overlooking the famed Sydney Opera House high above the Sydney skyline. Next, the Black Bears hosted a basketball clinic for underprivileged youth before taking on Northern Suburbs NBL1 in the first contest of the trip.

The Black Bears lost their opener to Northern by a final of 63-56. Adrianna Smith led the way with a double-double as she totaled 14 points with 10 rebounds while Caroline Bornemann added 12 points and five boards. Caroline Dotsey chipped in seven points and three rebounds in the loss.
