Orono, ME - Five University of Maine track and field athletes -
Jonathan Prell,
Conner Michaud,
Luke Marsanskis,
Cheyenne Figueroa, and
Mackenzie Wilson- have been named to the America East Indoor Track and Field All-Academic team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Prell, a graduate student majoring in instructional teaching achieved a 4.00 grade point average (3.61 GPA undergrad) to earn him recognition on the conference's All-Academic team. Prell holds the third overall distance in the Shot Put with 17.11 meters and placed second at the Indoor Championships this season.
Michaud, a senior from Presque Isle, achieved a 3.84 grade point average while majoring in Mechanical Engineering while earning a minor in Computer Science. At the Indoor Championships, Michaud placed first in the 400m, second in the 4x4 relay which broke the school record, and placed in the top 8 in the 200m. He holds the third-best overall time for Maine in the 200m run and 400m run.
Marsanskis, a graduate student from Cumberland Center, ME, earned a 3.67 GPA in his mechanical Engineering Master's program and achieved a 3.64 GPA while majoring in Mechanical Engineering as an undergrad. Luke took the gold in the 5000m at the IC4A, which locked him in first overall, earning the school record of a 14:03.20 time. He is ninth in UMaine history in the one mile (4:09.84), and third in UMaine history in the 3000m (8:09.80). At the Indoor Championships, Luke took home the gold for the 3000m race and earned second in the 5000m.
Figueroa, a senior from Pawtucket, RI earned a 3.61 GPA while majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Native American Studies. Cheyenne holds the record at Maine for the Weight Throw and also took home the gold in the Weight Throw at the Indoor Championships this season.
Wilson, a senior from Lasalle, Ontario, Canada earned a 3.75 GPA while double majoring in Kinesiology and Physical Education and French. Wilson holds the second-place record for UMaine in the Weight Throw and placed third in Weight Throw at the Indoor Championships this season.
