Sam Morrison and
Ida Kuoppala of the University of Maine women's ice hockey team earned weekly awards, Hockey East announced Tuesday, for their performances in the team's sweep of Holy Cross.
Freshman forward
Sam Morrison was named Hockey East's Rookie of the Week award after a four-point weekend against Holy Cross. Morrison scored twice in Friday's overtime win, including the game-winning goal to end the game. On Saturday,
Sam Morrison tallied the game-winner again and registered one assist to propel the team to a 5-2 victory. Morrison is currently on a three-game point streak as the team heads into the opening round of Hockey East playoffs.

Ida Kuoppala was tabbed Player of the Week by Hockey East for her fourth time this season. Kuoppala assisted
Sam Morrison's game-winning goal in Friday's overtime win and notched a goal and two assists in Saturday's win, one assist being
Sam Morrison's game-winner. The Pedersore, Finland native leads not only the Black Bears but also the Hockey East conference in goals (20) and total points (38). Kuoppala is tied for eighth nationally in scoring.

The Black Bears are set to host Merrimack College on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Alfond Arena for the opening round of Hockey East playoffs. Puck drop is set for 6:00 PM.
