Orono, ME - The University of Maine men's basketball program took down UMaine at Fort Kent on Wednesday night in their home opener, 98-47.
The Black Bears jumped in front early on the back of a 15-3 run in the first five minutes of the contest as they never looked back on the night, slowly increasing their lead throughout the game.
They took a 48-22 lead into halftime.
Kellen Tynes and
AJ Lopez lead the way in scoring as they each had 10.
Quion Burns and
Christopher Mantis each had five rebounds as they combined for eight points in the opening half.
After a slow start in the second half, the Black Bears ended the night on a 39-9 run across the final 14 minutes of the contest on their way to their first victory of the season.
Quion Burns ended with his first double-double of the season and second as a Black Bear as he had a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Ridvan Tutic ended with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Lopez (15), Tynes (14) and
Keelan Steele (12) all scored in double-digits for the Black Bears.
Maine (1-1) heads on the road to Brown on Sunday afternoon as they look to grab their second win of the season. Tip off is scheduled for 2 P.M.
