AMESBURY, Mass. – University of Maine men's ice hockey junior
Brandon Holt has been named the Hockey East Defender of the Month, as announced Thursday by the league.
Holt helped Maine to a 4-0-1 October while recording seven points on two goals and five assists. His point total led all Hockey East blue liners and tied for sixth overall among conference players while sitting fourth nationally among defensemen. Holt's plus-5 rating tied for eighth-best in the league and second among defensemen and he was part of a unit giving up just 1.75 goals against per game in the opening month of the season.
The Grand Forks, N.D. native had two multi-point outings to go with 15 shots on goal and three blocked shots. Holt scored the game-tying goal in the final minute to force overtime of an eventual win over then #7 Quinnipiac and also added a power-play tally in a come-from-behind tie and shootout win effort at Northeastern. His five-game point streak is the longest by a Black Bear defenseman since Patrick Holway's six-game streak in the 2017-18 season.
This is the first career Defender of the Month honor for Holt, who was named Defender of the Week once during the 2023-24 season.
Additionally,
Albin Boija was the runner-up for Hockey East Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Month.
