Women’s Ice Hockey Announces 2023-24 Schedule

Orono, ME - On July 17, the University of Maine women's ice hockey team announced their schedule for the 2023-24 season. The 35 game season includes one exhibition game as well as 27 games against Hockey East opponents. 

Maine finished last season with a 15-18-2 overall record and a 12-13-2 conference record, making it to the Hockey East quarterfinals. They will begin the 2023-24 season with an exhibition game against the University of New Brunswick on Sept. 23.

The regular season begins the following weekend on the road against Quinnipiac for a two game series with games on Sept. 29 and 30. 

The Black Bears continue on the road for their next weekend series. They face off against Stonehill, a team that was not faced during the 2022-23 season. These games will take place on Friday Oct. 6 and Saturday Oct. 7.

The Alfond will see its first game on Friday, Oct. 13. This will also be Maine's first matchup against a fellow Hockey East opponent, the New Hampshire Wildcats. The Border Battle is set to start at 2:00 p.m. Maine defeated the Wildcats twice last season.

Next, Maine will face off against their Hockey East quarterfinal rivals from last season, Providence College. The Black Bears will travel to play the Friars on the road on Oct. 20 and Oct. 21.

On Oct. 27 and 28 the Black Bears return to the Alfond to face off against the Boston University Terriers. Last season Maine had two wins and one tie against the Terriers.

The Black Bears go back on the road the following weekend to play against Boston College. These conference games are being played on Nov. 3 and 4.

Maine returns to the Alfond for another conference series against UConn on Nov. 10 and 11. The Black Bears had a  2-1 record against the Huskies last season.

The following weekend Maine returns to the road. They will compete against the Vermont catamounts in Burlington, VT on Nov. 17 and 18.

After a weekend off, Maine is back home to face off against two different Hockey East opponents. They first play Vermont on Dec. 1 and then Holy Cross the next day, Dec. 2.

One week later, on Dec. 9, Maine is set to compete against Dartmouth. This game will take place in Portland, ME at the Cross Insurance Arena. This is the last game before the team heads into their winter break.

Upon returning from winter break the Black Bears will compete against Colgate on Dec. 29 in the first game of a small tournament that includes two other teams. Maine's next opponent will be determined by the outcome of their first game and the other games in the tournament. They will either play Bemidji State or Robert Morris University on Dec. 30.

The Black Bears return to Maine where they have three games on their home ice. On Jan. 6 they welcome the Boston College Eagles for one game. Maine had a 2-1 overtime victory over the Eagles in the Alfond last season.

The following weekend they face off against the reigning Hockey East champions, Northeastern. The teams first meetup of the season will be on Jan. 12 and 13. Maine handed the Huskies one of their three losses last season.

Maine will then play their next four games on the road. They face-off against two conference opponents, UConn on Jan. 19 and Merrimack on Jan. 20. The following weekend Maine travels to Durham, NH for games against the University of New Hampshire  on Jan. 26 and 27. 

On Feb. 2 and 3 the Black Bears return home to host Merrimack for two games. Last season Maine had a 2-1 record against the Warriors.

Then Maine heads back on the road to Massachusetts to face off against two Hockey East opponents. They face the Boston University Terriers on Feb. 9 and the Northeastern Huskies Feb. 10. 

The Black Bears play their last regular season home game on Feb. 16 with a solo game against Providence.

Maine wraps up the regular season with another road trip to play Holy Cross on Feb. 23 and 24. Maine had a 2-1 record against the Crusaders last season.

The Hockey East tournament begins on Feb. 28 with the championship game scheduled for Mar. 10.
