Kellen Tynes Named to Canadian U23 National Team

Tynes and Team Canada will begin competition on July 12 against Team Africa in GloblJam 2023

Orono, ME - Kellen Tynes of the University of Maine men's basketball program has been named to the Canadian National U23 Team that will be competing in GloblJam 2023, which begins on Wednesday, July 12 against Team Africa.

Tynes, a native of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is coming off a tremendous season for the Black Bears in 2022-23, helping to led them to their most wins since the 2010-11 season. Tynes averaged 14.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG and 3.9 APG across all 30 games for the Black Bears. He was most impactful on the defensive side of the ball as he led the NCAA in steals (98) and steals per game (3.27). He was named the program's first ever America East Defensive Player of the Year and he was a semifinalist for the National Defensive Player of the Year.

GloblJam is a 5-on-5 under-23 basketball tournament featuring men's and women's teams from around the world. The event will take place at Toronto's Mattamy Athletic Centre and broadcast nationally across the Sportsnet platform.

Tynes and Team Canada will begin play on Wednesday, July 12 against Team Africa in the round robin style tournament. He will then compete on Thursday, July 13 against Team USA and conclude the opening round against Team Germany on Saturday July 15. The third and fourth place teams will then compete for the Bronze Medal on Sunday, July 16 at 1 p.m. with the first and second place teams to follow in the Gold Medal game at 8 p.m.
