Quinn McDaniel was selected in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Monday afternoon by the San Francisco Giants. McDaniel was selected with the 153rd overall pick and he is the first player selected in the MLB Draft out of the America East since Jeremy Peña in 2018 (102nd overall).
McDaniel is a native of Elliot, ME and he joined the Black Bears as a freshmen in 2021. During his three years with the Black Bears, McDaniel asserted himself as not only the top second basemen in the Northeast, but one of the top overall players in the region. He has a career slash line of .319/.434/.577 across his 143 games for the Black Bears. He hit 32 home runs, 34 doubles, 5 triples and he went 56 for 68 on stolen base attempts.
In his most recent season, McDaniel started in all 53 games for the America East Championship winning Black Bears. He was named an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team member, he was named to his second NEIBA All-New England First Team and he earned his second America East All-Conference First Team selection. He set the America East record with 60 walks in a single season, which was tied for the 10th most walks in the NCAA DI and his OBP (.513) was the 12th highest in Division I. He averaged 1.13 walks per game on the season, which was the third highest rate in Division I.
