ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the University of Vermont Catamounts, 4-2, on Wednesday evening in Alfond Arena.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): While on their first power play opportunity of the evening,
Lynden Breen scored his 20th goal of the season.
Thomas Freel, from his back, found his linemate. Breen went five-hole and gave his squad a one goal lead that would last through the first period.

Second Goal (1-1): As was the case with Maine's goal, Vermont also scored on the power play.
Victor Ostman made the original save from Will Zapernick. The rebound deflected to Timofei Spitserov who found the back of the net. The game was tied at the end of 40:00.

Third Goal (2-1 Maine): Lynden Breen gave his squad another one goal lead after
Grayson Arnott had his shot saved.
Jakub Sirota worked the puck to Arnott, who fired on net. Breen took advantage of the open net and, once again, gave the Bears a one goal advantage.

Fourth Goal (2-2): The Catamounts tied the Hockey East playoff game after the Black Bears turned the puck over behind their net. Massimo Lombardi collected the loose puck and flipped it ahead to Andrei Buyalsky, who tied the contest. At the 7:20 mark of the third period, Maine saw their second lead evaporate.

Fifth Goal (3-2 Vermont): Isak Walther scored the game winning goal after he jammed the puck off
Dawson Bruneski's stick and into the net.
Victor Ostman tried to cover the puck but Jacques Bouquot stole the puck and left it for Walther. Maine would not be able to come back.

Sixth Goal (4-2 Vermont): William Lemay scored an empty net goal. The Black Bear fell 4-2.

Notes: Victor Ostman saved 26 shots in net for the Black Bears, while Gabe Carriere stopped 28 shots between the pipes for UVM.

Maine went 1 for 3 on the power play, as the Catamounts were 2-4 on their player advantages.
