Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey falls to #14 Boston College for weekend split

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team ends the weekend splitting with Boston College, after Saturday's 4-2 loss.

Boston College struck first with an even strength goal late in the first period. The Black Bears killed off Alyssa Wruble's penalty in the final two minutes of the first period to build momentum that rolled into the second period.

Just a minute and a half into the second period, Lily Fetch scored her second career goal with a slick move around Boston College's goaltender Grace Campbell. Ava Stevenson and Ashley Kokavec each picked up an assist.

Ida Kuoppala sniped a goal over Campbell's shoulder seven minutes later to give Maine the lead. Linemates Ann-Frederique Guay and Rahel Enzler tallied an assist each on the goal.

The period ended with the Eagles' sneaking a late-goal past Maine netminder Julia Bachetti to tie the game back up to 2 goals apiece.

With just over five minutes left in the game, Annaka Mettler was able to find the back of the net for Boston College. Maine pulled their goalie shortly after for an extra attacker but was unable to find the back of the net again. Boston College scored a fourth and final empty-net goal with just over one minute left.

Goaltender Julia Bachetti made 30 saves on 33 shots for Maine.

The Maine Black Bears return home next week for a series against the University of Connecticut on Nov. 10 and 11 at Alfond Arena.
