Orono, Maine - Ida Kuoppala,
Elise Morphy and
Julia Bachetti of the University of Maine women's ice hockey team tabbed weekly Hockey East awards, Hockey East announced Monday.
For the third time this season,
Ida Kuoppala has earned Hockey East's player of the week award. The fifth-year forward scored three goals in the weekend sweep of Vermont, two of which were game-winning-goals and one a short-handed goal. Kuoppala leads Hockey East in goals (13) and points (18) and currently sits at second in the nation for goals scored this season.
Senior captain Elise Morphy earned Defender of the Week after assisting both of Kuoppala's game-winning-goals. Morphy also registered three shots on goal and two blocked shots over the weekend. Friday's game was Morphy's 100th game in a Black Bear jersey.
Freshman goaltender Julia Bachetti was named Rookie of the Week after back-to-back wins for Maine's first sweep of Vermont since 2014. Bachetti picked up her first career shutout in Friday's game making 19 saves for the Black Bears. She stopped 26 shots in Saturday's 3-2 win as she holds a .913 save percentage - the best among rookie goaltenders in the conference.
