WINTER HAVEN, FL – The University of Maine baseball team split a pair of games against NDSU on Sunday.

Game One: Maine won 7-0
Â
First Inning:
Joe Bramanti got the Black Bears out to an early 2-0 lead as he hit his second home run of the series, this one being a no-doubt shot to deep left field, driving in
Jeff Mejia and giving the Black Bears a lead they would never surrender.

Second Inning: NDSU would have a pair of defensive errors in the inning, which would allow
Scout Knotts to score and set up a
Jeff Mejia RBI single that drove in
Jake Marquez.
Â
Third Inning: The scoring got finished early in game one of the double-headers as
Jake Marquez hit a bases loaded single to drive in
Jeremiah Jenkins.
Jeff Mejia would follow two batters later with a two-RBI single, also with the bases loaded, driving in
Scout Knotts and
Ryan Turenne.

That would be all the offense in this contest as Maine would grab game one, 7-0.

Caleb Leys and
Jordan Schulefand combined to throw a 7-inning shutout, striking out 11 batters, 7 for Leys, 4 for Schulefand.

Evan Snakey took the loss for NDSU, allowing 7 runs, 5 earned, over 2 and 2/3 innings.

Game Two: NDSU won 4-2

Third Inning: L Williams got the first run on the board in the second game on the day, driving in G Hill with an RBI single.
Â
Fourth Inning: NSDU would do most of their damage in the fourth, with 3 of their 4 runs on the day coming in the inning, all being scored off of singles.

Ninth Inning: The Black Bears would attempt a final inning comeback as
Joe Bramanti double to left, driving in
Quinn McDaniel.
Jeremiah Jenkins would follow with an RBI double of his own, trimming the NSDU lead down to 4-2.

That would be all the Black Bear offense could muster in the final game of the weekend series, falling in game 3, 4-2.

Cade Feeney picked up the victory, turning in 8 solid innings of work, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 6.

Trevor Labonte picked up the loss for the Black Bears in his first start of the 2022 season, allowing 4 runs over 4 innings of work, striking out 5.

Maine stays in Florida for a pair of games at Stetson on Monday, Mar. 14 and Tuesday, March 15.
