PREVIEW: Maine hits the road to meet Rhode Island

Black Bears and Rams square off on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Orono, Maine -- Maine looks to snap its two-game losing skid when it travels to take on Rhode Island on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the 27th meeting between the two programs with the all-time series deadlocked at 13 wins apiece. LAST TIME OUT:
Orono, Maine -- Adrianna Smith registered her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 65-51 loss to visiting Princeton on Friday evening.

Smith, who also added five assists in the game, was joined atop Maine's scoring column by Caroline Bornemann who finished with nine points and five boards while Paula Gallego chipped in eight points.

The Black Bears, who shot 53.8 percent in a strong second quarter and finished 6-of-8 in the fourth, turned the ball over 18 times to Princeton's seven in the contest.

Maine, which trailed by only one at the half, was outscored 36-23 in the second half.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears are looking for their first road win since opening the season with a 60-58 victory at James Madison. Maine is led by Adrianna Smith, who is coming off her conference leading third double-double of the season, ranks 31st in the country in double-doubles. Smith ranks 21st in the America East in scoring (9.5), fourth in rebounding (7.8), and fourth in assists (3.4). Caroline Bornemann ranks 25th in the league at 9.1 points per game and fifth at 6.8 rebounds. Olivia Rockwood is fourth best among America East leaders in three-point percentage (34.6) and fourth at 2.3 triples made per game. The Black Bears continue to rank second in the league in three point field goals per game (7.0) with eight or more makes in three of eight including a season best 12 against Niagara. Maine checks in third in the league at 32.2 percent from downtown. Maine defense sits fourth best among America East programs, allowing 62.4 points per game.

A LOOK AT RHODE ISLAND:
Since beginning the season with a loss to Harvard, Rhody has strung together six consecutive victories including a most recent 71-56 win against Buffalo. The Rams are undefeated (4-0) at home this season. Rhody is led by Maye Toure who guides the Rams at 16.0 points per game and a team-high 6.1 rebounds while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor. Emma Squires is adding 11.3 points. The Rams rank third in the A-10 at 73.7 points per game, fourth in scoring defense (60.6), and tops with a 46.5 percent mark from the floor and a second best 37.3 percent showing from downtown. Rhody is forcing 19.3 turnovers per game and featured a +4.29 turnover margin.

SERIES WITH Rhode island:
This will be the 27th all-time meeting between Maine and Rhody. Maine and URI are deadlocked in the all-time series at 13 wins each. Maine's last win in the series came in the last meeting between the two clubs at the Ryan Center, a 61-47 win at Rhode Island on Dec. 11, 2020. Rhody has won each of the last two games played in Maine, including a 45-44 victory a year ago at the Augusta Civic Center. Maine is 9-10 all-time on the road against Rhody.
