ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine men's ice hockey team continues the road trip with a weekend series at #19 Merrmiack. Game time for Friday is scheduled for 4:05 pm, while Saturday is set for 7:05 pm.

About the Black Bears

• The Black Bears enter the 2022-23 season with 16 new faces on the roster after seeing 13 players graduate, transfer, or leave to pursue professional hockey.

• 12 letterwinners from the 2021-22 season return for this chapter of maine hockey, which include the four newly minted captains. Jakub Sirota will sport the 'C', while Lynden Breen, Ben Poisson, and David Breazeale have each earned an 'A' on their sweater.

• 11 incoming freshmen and five transfers make up the players who were added by the coaching staff, whom are in their second full season behind the bench.

• Senior alternate captain Ben Poisson leads the Black Bears in points (six) and assists (five). Junior alternate captain forward Lynden Breen holds the team lead in goals (three). Freshman defense Brandon Holt leads all newcomers in points (2 G, 3 A).

• Four different black bears have scored exactly two goals over the first nine games (Holt, Villeneuve-Houle, Hanson, and Renwick), while four different players have dished out three or more assists (Poisson, Holt, Freel, and Breazeale).

About the Warriors

• Merrimack finished the 2021-22 season with a record of 19-15-1, ultimately falling in the Quarterfinal Round of the Hockey East Tournament to #14 UMass Lowell.

• The Warriors return one of their top five scorers from 2021-22 in Filip Forsmark.

• Hugo Ollas and Zachary Borgiel appeared in a combined 38 games last season. They posted a 2.72 GAA and .903 save percentage, while winning 19 games and recording two shutouts for the Warriors.

The Series with Merrimack

• Maine and Merrimack have squared off 106 times prior to Friday's tilt, with Maine holding an edge of 73-24-9 in the all-time series.

• The squads first squared off on Dec. 29, 1978 with Maine winning, 3-2, the neutral site contest at Cornell's Lynah Rink.

• The Hockey East squads met three times last season. David Breazeale scored an OT game winning goal on nov. 12 in Orono. The Warriors defeated Maine in the opening round of the Hockey East tournament.

• Lynden Breen and Matthew Fawcett both scored in the playoff game that took place in Lawler Rink in North Andover.
