Men's Hockey Stumbles in Series Finale at #8 UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was by the #8 University of Connecticut Huskies, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in the XL Center.

First Goal (1-0 Maine): On an odd man rush, Felix Trudeau scored his first career goal for the University of Maine. Justin Michaelian sent the puck ahead to Grant Hebert. The super senior's saucer pass to Trudeau was perfect. With no one between the freshman and the Huskies' goaltender, Trudeau scored the first goal of the night for the Black Bears.

Second Goal (1-1): After fighting off a five-minute major penalty, Matthew Wood for #8 UConn tied the Hockey East game at one goal apiece. Receiving the puck from Justin Pearson, Wood's shot found its way through traffic. The game was tied at the 4:36 mark of the second period.

Third Goal (2-1 #8 UConn): Two seconds after the Black Bears left the penalty box, Chase Bradley scored an even strength goal. Seeming to have an impossible angle, the forward flipped a shot that snuck in the goal over Victor Ostman's shoulder. After two periods, Maine trailed 2-1.

Fourth Goal (2-2): Lynden Breen tied the Saturday afternoon contest at two with a goal in the final five minutes of regulation. Ben Poisson passed the puck from behind the Huskies' net. The puck deflected off Reid Pabich to Breen, who buried his chance. The game would not remain tied.

Fifth Goal (3-2 #8 UConn): 00:48 after the Black Bears tied the finale, #8 Uconn regained their one goal lead. Justin Pearson found the go-ahead and game winning goal.

Notes: Victor Ostman saved 22 shots in net for the Black Bears, while Arsenii Sergeev recorded 29 saves between the pipes for #8 UConn.

Maine went 0 for 3 on the power play, as the Huskies were 0-3 on its player advantages.

Next: The Black Bears return to the ice next Friday, November 11 at Merrimack. Puck drop with the Warriors is scheduled for 4:05 pm.
