• The Black Bears enter the 2022-23 season with 16 new faces on the roster after seeing 13 players graduate, transfer, or leave to pursue professional hockey.

• 12 letter winners from the 2021-22 season return for this chapter of Maine hockey, which include the four newly minted captains. Jakub Sirota will sport the 'C', while Lynden Breen, Ben Poisson, and David Breazeale have each earned an 'A' on their sweater.

• The 11 incoming freshmen and five transfers make up the players who were added by the coaching staff, whom are in their second full season behind the bench.

• Freshman defender Brandon Holt leads the Black Bears in points with two goals and three assists, while freshmen forwards Killian Kiecker-Olson (1G, 2A) and Thomas Freel (1G, 2A) each have three points on the short season.

• Five different black bears have scored exactly two goals over the first seven games (Holt, Breen, Villeneuve-Houle, Hanson, and Renwick), while three different players have dished out three or more assists (Poisson, Holt, and Breazeale).

About the Huskies

• UConn finished the 2021-22 season with a record of 20-16, ultimately falling in the championship game of the hockey east Tournament to #11/#12 UMass.

• The Huskies return two of their top five scorers from 2021-22 in Ryan Tverberg and Hudson Schandor.

• Logan Terness appeared in 1 game last season. The sophomore goaltender posted a 3.08 GAA and .903 save percentage, while losing his lone start for the Huskies.

The Series with UConn

• UMaine and UConn first squared off in 1977. The Black Bears trail 6-8-4 in the all-time series.

• The teams played two times during the 2021-22 season. Maine hosted the huskies in Orono. UConn won both of the hockey east contests.

• Donavan Villeneuve-Houle scored two goals against the Huskies, while Grant Hebert and Jakub Sirota both found the back of the net one time during last season's series.

• After the first meeting on Dec. 9, 1977 – a 10-2 UMaine victory – the teams played again in 1978 and then didn't meet again until the Huskies joined Hockey East in 2014.
