The Win is the First for Head Coach Chris Markwood at the Helm of the Black Bears
Bangor, ME – The University of Maine defeated the Bengals of UMaine at Fort Kent on Friday night, 90-45
The Bengals found themselves out to an early 4-0 lead as Jordan Guerrero got the scoring going for his squad on a steal and layup.
The Black Bears would have a quick answer as Maine went on their longest scoring run of the game, a 13-0 run to build up their lead to 9 points, a lead which they never surrendered for the entirety of the game.
The Black Bears went into the half up 28 points at a 48-20 margin. Kellen Tynes led all scorers with 12 points, to go along with three assists and four steals for Maine. Gedi Juozapaitis continued his hot-shooting to begin the season as he poured in 11 points in the opening 20 on 4 of 7 from the field.
The second half was more of the same for the Black Bears as they outscored the Bengals 42-25 in the final 20 minutes to pick up their first win of the season and the first win as Head Coach for Chris Markwood.
Thirteen different Black Bears scored points in the 90-45 victory over the Bengals on Friday night. Peter Filipovity led all players in points with 17 and rebounds with 11. The double-double was his first of the season and the first double-double of any Black Bear this season. Gedi Juozapaitis (15) and Kellen Tynes (14) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Black Bears. Tynes also racked up seven steals on the night.
Maine (1-1) will be facing off against ACC opponent Boston College in their next matchup on Monday, Nov. 14. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
