Women's Hockey Falls in First Overtime of Hockey East Semifinal at #9 Providence, 1-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team was defeated by the Providence College Friars, 1-0, on Wednesday evening in the Schneider Arena.
The two Hockey East foes skated to three scoreless regulation periods. Maine outshot Providence, 31-22, in the 60:00, while each team only took one penalty.
First Goal (1-0 Providence): As the Black Bears made a line change, the Friars scored the only goal of the Hockey East semifinal match-up. Giana Savastano corralled the puck in the neutral zone as new Maine skaters were coming onto the ice. The forward saw Hunter Barnett all alone in Maine's end. After receiving the puck, Barnett made a move and found the back of the net. The sudden death goal ended the Wednesday game 2:10 into the first overtime period.
Notes: Loryn Porter stopped 22 shots for the Black Bears, while Sandra Abstreiter tallied 33 saves for Providence.
Maine went 0 for 1 on their power play opportunity, as the Friars were 0-1 on its player advantage.
The Black Bears blocked seven shots as a team.
