About the Black Bears

• Ben Barr was named the fifth head coach of the University of Maine men's ice hockey program. Barr comes to Orono after spending the previous five seasons at the University of Massachusetts, winning one national championship and playing in another.

• The Black Bears and Coach Barr won their first game of the 2021-22 season last weekend. David Breazeale scored an overtime game winner Friday night, while the Saturday night bout was won 2-0 by Merrimack.

• Along side his game winner, Breazeale also dished out two assists. Jacob Schmidt-Svjestrup and Lynden Breen both scored a goal and assisted on another. Ben Poisson recorded two helpers, while Jakub Sirota scored two goals (including the game tying goal).

• The Black Bears enter the season with six new faces on the roster after seeing five players graduate or leave to pursue professional hockey.

• Three incoming freshmen and three transfers make up players who were added by the new coaching staff. Three of the incoming student athletes are from the United States, while the other three are from Canada.

• The three-member Class of 2025 includes Tim Gould, Nolan Renwick, and David Breazeale. Dominic Dockery, Matthew Fawcett, and Grant Hebert are the three transfers who chose the University of Maine over their other offers.

About the Eagles

• Boston College finished the 2020-21 season with a record of 17-6-1, ultimately earning an At-Large bid to the NCAA tournament and being defeated by St. Cloud State, 4-1, in the second round.

• The Eagles return three of their top five scorers from 2020-21 in Marc McLaughlin, Nikita Nesterenko, and Jack McBain.

• Henry Wilder appeared in three games last season. The sophomore goaltender posted a 3.20 GAA and .909 save percentage, while winning one game for the Eagles.

The Series with Boston College

• Maine and Boston College have squared off 131 times prior to the weekend series, with the Eagles holding an edge of 70-52-9 in the all-time series.

• BC and Maine first met on Dec. 11, 1979, with Gary Conn's game-winning goal and Jim Tortorella's 27 save performance helping the Black Bears to a 6-3 road win.

• The Eagles defeated the Black Bears two times last season in the Conte Forum.

• There has only been one scoreless meeting between Maine and BC: a 0-0 tie coming on Jan. 1, 1998 at the Conte Forum, with Maine's current assistant coach Alfie Michaud making 42 save for the shutout.
