PREVIEW: Football Hosts William & Mary on Homecoming Weekend in Orono

Tailgate Lots open at 9 a.m., kickoff at noon

Orono, Maine -- Maine welcomes William & Mary to Alfond Stadium on Homecoming Weekend in Orono, presented by Bangor Savings Bank. Kickoff is set for noon and tailgate lots open at 9 a.m.

Tickets are still available for Saturday's game and can be purchased by calling 207.581.BEAR, in-person at the UMaine Athletics Box Office located at Alfond Arena, or online at GoBlackBears.com/tickets. Saturday's game will be broadcasat live locally on ABC-7 Bangor and WPXT-Portland and also streamed live via the FloFootball platform. The game can also be heard worldwide on the Black Bear Sports Network and locally in Maine on 103.9 FM, 101.3 FM, 95.1 FM, 100.5 FM, 1450 AM, 1310 AM.

  • The Black Bears have won four-straight games on their Homecoming weekend, including a most recent 34-25 win over William & Mary on Homecoming in 2019.
  • William & Mary enters play with a slim, 8-7 advantage in the all-time series. Maine is 4-4 at home against the Tribe and have won each of the last three meetings in Orono, including a 34-25 victory in William & Mary's last trip to Alfond Stadium in 2019. In the 2019 victory, Joe Fagnano threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns while Maine limited William & Mary to just 68 passing yards while forcing a pair of turnovers. Maine is 5-1 against the Tribe in the last six meetings.
  • The Black Bears, averaging nearly 15.5 points per game higher at home than on the road this season, will look for their first league win on the year. Quarterback Derek Robertson has set career-highs in passing yardage in each of his last four outings. Andre Miller, coming off a career-best 167 yards receiving, is averaging 17.3 yards per catch. Defensively, Maine features two defenders who rank in the top seven among the CAA leaders in tackles per game (Fofie Bazzie - 1st - 9.2; Ray Miller - 7th - 8.4). Maine has forced six turnovers in its last three outings.
  • William & Mary enters play riding a four-game win streak. In their latest outing, the Tribe erased an 18-point halftime deficit while outscoring UAlbany 28-3 in the second half to earn a 31-24 win over the Great Danes. The Tribe boast the third-ranked rush defense in the CAA (113.2) and second ranked rushing offense (176.0) while ranking 13th in the nation, and tops in the CAA, in sacks allowed (1.0). William & Mary is 11th in the nation and atop the CAA leaderboard in sacks per game, dialing up 3.20 per game.
  • Maine, which ranks second in the CAA in sacks allowed (1.4), faces a William & Mary defensive front which ranks first in the CAA and 11th nationally at 3.20 sacks per game.
  • Maine's special teams units have been electric this season. The Black Bears have blocked three kicks this season, returning two PATs for touchdowns. Last week, in his first kickoff return of his Black Bear career, Trevin Ewing took it all the way for a 96-yard touchdown.
