ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team defeated #12 Northeastern University Huskies, 4-2, Friday night in the Alfond Arena.

First Goal (#12 Northeastern 1-0): The Huskies wasted little time on their first power play opportunity of the night to take a one goal lead. Zach Solow re-directed a puck into the Maine net less than 00:20 onto their man advantage. Tyler Madden's shot found Solow's stick. After one period of play, Northeastern had a 1-0 lead.

Second Goal (1-1): Much like the Huskies goal, the Black Bears took advantage of a 5-on-4 advantage. Levi Kleiboer battled for the puck in front of the Northeastern net. The freshman did enough to get it to Patrick Shea. The forward all but kicked the puck into the Huskies' net. Maine tied the Hockey East contest halfway through the second period.

Third Goal (Maine 2-1): Set up by a beautiful pass by Jacob Schmidt-Svjestrup, Adam Dawe scored the Black Bears' second goal of the second period. Ben Poisson had his shot saved. Schmidt-Svejstrup corralled and tossed the puck over to Dawe. The sophomore lit the lamp and gave Maine a lead after two periods.

Fourth Goal (Maine 3-1): AJ Drobot won a face-off to Ryan Smith. The senior played the puck over to Eduards Tralmaks. On an odd man rush for the Black Bears, Tralmaks found Smith for the easy goal.

Fifth Goal (Maine 3-2): Trying to bring his team back into the Friday evening contest, Matt Demelis scored Northeastern's second goal of the evening with less than seven minutes remaining. Ryan Shea made a beautiful pass to Demelis, who did the rest.

Sixth Goal (Maine 4-2): Eduards Tralmaks and Mitchell Fossier combined to score the final goal of the night. Fossier had his shot saved, but Craig Pantano left a huge rebound for Tralmaks. The junior buried the rebound to give Maine a 4-2 victory.

Notes: Jeremy Swayman finished with 20 saves for the Black Bears, while Craig Pantano tallied 32 for the Huskies.

Maine went 1-3 on the power play, as Northeastern was 1-3 on their man advantages.

The Black Bears blocked seven shots as a team.

Next: Maine will return to the ice next Friday, February 14th when they host UConn. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
