WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Hockey East Women's Conference announced on Wednesday that University of Maine forward Ida Kuoppala had been named the conferences Pro-Ambitions Rookie of the Month for January.

Kuoppala, a Freshman out of Pedersore, Finland, has put together a very strong season in her first collegiate year. For the month of January, Kuoppala scored an impressive six goals and added four assists, earning two weekly awards in the span of three weeks. Her most notable performance came against UNH on January 31, where she netted two goals and dished out two assists.

This award marks Kuoppala's third award of the season, her first monthly award. So far, Kuoppala leads all Black Bears in scoring at 15 goals, while being tied for second in total points (24) and tied for fifth in assists (9).

The Black Bears will be action on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8 as they travel to Providence College for Hockey East action. Those games will start at 6:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M. respectively.
