Cowan Runner-Up in Pentathlon on Day One of America East Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. -- The University of Maine women's track & field team sits in ninth place with 11 points after one day of competition at the 2020 America East Indoor Championships.
Katherine Cowan led the way for the Black Bears, turning in an impressive second place showing in the indoor pentathlon with 3,476 points. Cowan placed in the top three of three of the five events, winning the 60m hurdle with a time of 8.89, placing second in the long jump with a leap of 5.48m and turning in a third place showing in the shot put with a throw of 10.89m.
Erica Magnuson placed seventh in the weight throw (15.90m) and was followed by Sarah Vanacore's 10th place finish in the event at 15.70m. Mackenzie Wilson (14.83m) and Allison Fayard (14.03m) and Tuuli Overturf (13.50m) placed 12th, 13th and 16th in the weight throw, respectively.
The Black Bears placed four inside the top-12 in the pole vault session. Mikaelia Sansoucie paced Maine in the event, clearning 3.20m to place eighth. Olivia Wallace and Oliviah Damboise each also cleared 3.20m to finish ninth and 10th while Claire Ittleson cleared 3.05m to finish in 12th.
Anna Schumann's jump of 5.24m was tops for the Black Bears in the long jump, good for a 15th place finish.
Maine wraps up the America East Indoor Championships on Saturday at 10 a.m.
